Appointed as the main suspect of the poisoning that victimized five people from their own family, Francisco de Assis Pereira had the temporary arrest extended for another 30 days.
The detention, which would expire on February 8, now extends until March 10, a deadline that the Civil Police are awaiting the completion of expert examinations that may further clarify the details of the case. The information was passed on to CNN by delegate Abimael Silva, responsible for the investigation, this Monday (3).
Francisco’s arrest was extended last Friday (31), the same day that Maria dos Aflitos, wife of Francisco and mother and grandmother of the victims, was arrested. It is investigated for possible participation in the crime.
The poisoning occurred on the first day of the year, when nine people consumed poisoned baião. Francisco de Assis Pereira, 53, was arrested on January 8 after police identified a series of contradictions in his statements and gathering evidence that suggests that he would have shown indifference to the death of his family members.
New poisoning
When it was temporarily arrested last Friday (31), in a statement to the police, Maria dos Afflicted. Maria Jocilene da Silva, who died on January 24, had been hospitalized shortly after ingesting Baião de two on January 1, but was discharged the next day.
However, his health condition aggravated again and Maria Jocilene was again hospitalized on the 23rd, passing on shortly after.
In addition to Maria Jocilene, the other fatal victims are: Maria Gabriela (4 years old, daughter of Francisca and granddaughter of Maria dos Aflitos), Manoel da Silva (18, stepson of Francisco, brother of Francisca and son of Maria dos Aflitos), Imale Davi da Silva (1 year and 8 months, son of Francisca and grandson of Maria dos Aflitos), Maria Lauane (3, daughter of Francisca and granddaughter of Maria dos Afflicted) and Francisca Maria (32, stepdaughter of Francisco, sister of Manoel and daughter of Maria dos Aflitos).
