Prisoners make “karaoke” in Setúbal and generate discord and indignation between the prison guards and the union

The holding of a karaoke party in the courtyard of Setúbal prison has divided opinions and caused a strong reaction among the prison guards. According to prison services, it is “a regular activity, superiorly authorized, and integrated in the socio-cultural programs dynamized by the monitoring services of the execution of the penalty”.

However, the National Union of Prison Guard (SNGP) vehemently criticized the initiative, stating that “this situation is not synonymous with reinsertion of prisoners, and it is just a shame.” SNGP President Frederico Morais stressed that the guards were not previously warned about the party and that the images disclosed show a technique of reeducation in circulation with mobile phone, something that, according to him, violates the general regulation of the chains. “When we talk about changing rules, we have a chain with our own rules. It is the ‘Thursdays’ that each man generates in their own way. It’s time to end this, ”he concluded.
