The Rio-Niterói candidacy was approved at the General Assembly of the COB (Olympic Committee of Brazil), with the presence of authorities such as the Mayors (PSD) and (PDT), as well as (PV), deputy mayor of Niterói, and Guilherme Schleder , Rio Sports Secretary. The proposal suggests the use of existing structures and the construction of a Pan American village in Rio’s port area.
Among the projects are the construction of a subway line connecting the river to Niterói and the acceleration of the process of depollution of Guanabara Bay. The renovation of the Caio Martins Stadium in Niterói is also part of the plan.
The proposal includes the two cities, includes locations such as Barra da Tijuca Olympic Park and Maracanã Stadium. The goal is, in addition to playing games, to leave a sustainable legacy for cities and stimulate sports in the region.
