Sergio Mendes, bossa nova icon, is honored on the Grammy 2025

The Brazilian Sergio Mendes received a tributethis Sunday (2) during the ceremony of 67th edition of Grammy Awardsin Los Angeles, in the United States. An image of one of the greatest bossa nova icon appeared on the screen of the award during the traditional tribute to the artists who died the year before.

The pianist and composer died on September 5 at the age of 83. In a social media publication, Rodrigo Mendes, son of the musician, answered messages of condolences sent by followers.

American musician Herb Alpert, Mendes’s friend, published a tribute on social networks and stated that the pianist passed “quietly and peacefully” in Los Angeles, California. According to Alpert, Mendes faced health problems in recent months due to the long-term effects of Covid-19.

Known for his version of “But nothing”, originally composed by Jorge Ben, the musician had more than six decades of career and was one of the main exponents of samba-Jazz, a pace that made him world famous.
