The president’s onslaught against immigrants was celebrated in the right groups in the messenger applications. In the nearly 100,000 public groups of and analyzed by Palver, users demonstrated support for the deportation of illegal immigrants in the United States.
From his first term, the US president has chosen the theme of immigration as a way to keep his supporters more conservative supporters engaged. and still change laws that reduced the incentive for new migratory waves.
As soon as the new government took office, Trump began to fulfill his promise by signing some executive orders related directly to the subject. In addition to ordering the deportation of illegal immigrants, the measures also reached people who benefited from the granting of a special visa by the government.
In WhatsApp and Telegram groups analyzed by Palver, users in the right groups shared messages and videos celebrating Donald Trump’s decisions. Since early January, before the new government’s inauguration, there has been a mass deportation of illegal immigrants. The groups stirred each new news on the subject.
In one of the videos that circulated on the platform, a woman says she migrated to the United States when she was first elected, and was hopeful when she came to power, as he had proposed more rights to immigrants. However, the person claims that “he has never seen so many people be deported” and that immigrants often had no time or collecting personal belongings, being immediately deported.
Because of this, the woman extols Trump’s honesty, which made clear from the beginning what his policy on immigrants would be. Following the video, the woman states that the vast majority of illegal immigrants are petistas, who make in and send money to their families in Brazil. Following, he argues that, since they are petistas, they really need to be deported, because they need to live in the country ruled by Lula.
Still in the same video, the woman asks Trump, if she can choose who to deport, send away only the petistas and leftists, since the non -leftists, although illegal, would be generating profit to the country.
In another video that circulated, the author calls the deported “puppies of Lula”, arguing that all those being expelled from the United States are dangerous and criminals, therefore deserving rigorous treatment.
In leftist groups, there is debate on how people are being deported, especially regarding the use of handcuffs and. There is, in addition, indignation against other measures desired by Trump, such as the end of automatic citizenship to those born on American soil.
In terms of communication, it is interesting to observe the attempt to dehumanize and stigmatize the deported in the context of the right groups on WhatsApp. By classifying illegal immigrants as criminals, bad guys, “squid puppies”, petistas and leftists, there is a channeling of antipetism to the theme of migration.
To try to nullify the arguments from the left field, right -wing users point out that indignation is selective as there was no commotion with the deported through the Biden government and in previous governments.
This process of stigmatization of the deported is part of a psychological process of so that the Brazilian right, after supporting the election of Donald Trump, can accept the fact that the measures of the new government may be negative to Brazilians.
