Swedish prosecutors ruled out on Monday that damage to the underwater cable on January 26 in the Baltic Sea was sabotage. They also released the detained Bulgarian ship, TASR reports according to AFP.
“The investigation concerning the damage to the cable between Sweden and the Latvian in the Baltic Sea explained that this was not a serious sabotage. Therefore, the decision to cancel the seizure of a ship suspected of participating in cable damage was taken“the Swedish prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Sweden and Latvia on January 26 informed about damage to the optical cable of Latvian state radio and television (LVRTC) among the Swedish island of Gotland with Latvian city Ventspils. On the same day, the Swedish Coast Guard detained the ship of the Bulgarian company Navigation Naritima Bulgare sailing under the Maltese flag.
The Norwegian police have previously released a ship with the Russian crew, which the day previously detained because of suspicion of participation in a possible sabotage. According to the statement, there was no facts that would associate the ship with this act.
