The cause of its appearance is also a compact and moist ground, which hinders the grass. Fortunately, there are several ways to get rid of moss from the lawn.
How to get rid of moss from the lawn? A simple way to get a troublesome problem
Lime is one of the ways for a lawn without moss and weeds. The lawn limestone treatment is cheap and easy to carry out, and also nourishes plants. All because calcium changes the soil from sour to alkaline, which is what moss does not like. Lawn liming should be carried out at a certain time – in autumn and winter. However, this should not be done more often than every 3 years and for no clear reason. Lawn liming is performed only when the pH drops below 5.5. The test can be carried out with a special electronic meter or litmus paper. The lawn limestone is carried out out of growth season. This can be done in autumn, usually at the beginning of October until November. In spring, however, it is best to scatter calcium fertilizers at the beginning of March. Even before grass growth. Such preparations are rich in nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. The ingredients are necessary for proper growth and development of grass, and additionally has a positive effect on soil microflora.
Liming of the lawn
The lawns grow best on soils with slightly acidic to the alkaline – pH 6.0 – 7.0. However, liming must be carried out only when the pH drops below 5.5. If we spread the fertilizer without need, the lime will weaken the turf and the effect will be the opposite of the intended one. The procedure should not be performed too often. It is enough once every 3 years. Calcium fertilizers are enough to scatter on the lawn. The preparations easily absorb deep into the ground – after watering or with rain. After fertilization, you always need to slightly plunder the lawn. In spring, it’s best to use carbonate type fertilizer, i.e. one that contains fertilizer chalk or dolomite lime. Cretaceous lime is a fertilizer arising from natural algae mixed with magnesium. Greatly neutralizes soil acidity, and thus, prevents the appearance of weeds and moss on the pitch. In addition, it increases the absorption of macroelements. In turn, dolomite lime (arises from the dolomite milling), increases grass resistance to low temperatures, deacidifies and increases the absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus, binding water in deeper layers of soil.
Homemade way for moss on the lawn
One of the simplest home ways to get rid of moss on the lawn is a solution of water and vinegar. This is a safe and ecological method. Just dilute the vinegar with water in a 1: 1 ratio. We spray the moss with a ready mixture. Unfortunately, such a procedure gives short -term results and does not prevent the spread of moss in other places, but spraying can be used ad hood before we deal with a comprehensive solution to the problem.
