One of the most valuable fossils of man’s predecessors, including the famous Lucy, will be exhibited at the National Museum in Prague in 2025.

Ethiopia will lend two most valuable exhibits from its historical national cultural heritage, among them the most famous skeleton in the world called Lucy. These are fossil remains of Australopiteka from the period approximately 3.2 million years ago. These rare exhibits will be exhibited for the first time in Europe. On Tuesday, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced this at a press conference at the National Museum in Prague, reports TASR.

Three million old skeleton

“We will have the opportunity to exhibit three million old skeleton Lucy in the Czech Republic. It is an absolutely unique event and it is necessary to say that skeletal remains in Europe will be exhibited in the original for the first time … It is an extremely rare fossil. The measures that are associated with this are also extraordinary, “Fiala stressed.

In addition to Lucy, a child’s fossil named Selam, which is about 100,000 years older, will be exhibited in Prague. The skeletal remains of Lucy were found in 1974, selama about 25 years later. Fiala pointed out that the findings greatly helped to reveal the origin of man.

They will be exhibited in the historical building of the Czech National Museum from 25 August to 23 October 2025 as part of the upcoming exposition. The idea of exhibiting Lucy in the Czech Republic was created according to Fiala during his visit to Ethiopia in November 2023.

The cradle of humanity

Ethiopian tourism minister Selamawit Kassa also spoke at a press conference and invited the public to find out why Ethiopia is called the cradle of humanity. “The historical exhibition will offer a unique opportunity for all Europeans to see some of the most valuable remains of the predecessor of man, and it will certainly be something that lovers of history, but also scientists or the public will want to see,” Kassa added.

According to scientists, Lucy lived in today’s Ethiopia. It was about 106 centimeters tall, weighed 28 kilograms and resembled more to chimpanza than today’s man. It is also referred to as the “Pratt of Humanity”.
