Congress held on Monday (3) the first session of the year. The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, represented the government during the event.
In a statement, the Presidency of the Republic stated that the focus of the next two years will be in education and the economy. And he exalted the results of management so far – including in the control of inflation, which burst the limit of the goal last year.
Soon after, Hugo Motta, the new mayor, met with the party leaders for the first time since taking office. The purpose of the meeting was to define the priority of the house in the first half.
In the coming days, the group needs to indicate members of the thematic committees. Then the deputies will elect the board of each one. Parties with the largest benches have priority in choice.
The change in the National Congress summit coincides with the articulation of the Planalto, which negotiates with the leaders of the base a ministerial reform.
The center is expected to gain even more space on the terrace. Still, there is no guarantee for now that the movement translates into consistent support in the House or Senate votes.
In the morning, Lula, David Alcolumbre and Hugo Motta gathered at the Planalto Palace, extolling the collaboration between the powers.
“The House of Representatives, I also think that the Federal Senate, the National Congress, will be available to build a positive agenda for the country,” said Hugo Motta.
President Lula congratulated the duo. And he said he will work in partnership with Congress to coordinate a common agenda to powers.
“I will never send to Senate or to the House a project that is of personal interest of President Lula or a political party. All the projects we will send to Congress – Senate and Chamber – will be projects of vital interest to the Brazilian people, ”said Lula.
Despite the union speech, the government will face a congress willing to combat for the next two years. The two new presidents have already signaled that they will act to maintain the legislature’s influence on the execution of the public budget.
At the opening ceremony of this Monday, Alcolumbre made it clear that Congress will not give up the execution of parliamentary amendments.
“The recent controversy on budgeting amendments illustrates the need for mutual respect and continuous dialogue. The decisions of the Federal Supreme Court must be respected, but it is equally indispensable to ensure that this parliament is not curtailed in its primary function of legislating and representing the interests of the Brazilian people, including bringing resources and investments to all regions of Brazil ”.
