All year -round green shrub, which can grow up to a six -meter tree. It is planted with fragrant flowers of different colors and its fruits form a interpretation of two bladders. We are talking about the oleander plant.

Seed pods

Like the apple tree, the oleander produces its fruits. These are long, slim bean pods that contain green or yellow seeds. They grow in pairs during the summer and autumn and ripen all this time while changing color to brown.

During this period, if they are not harvested, split and relax small clumps that grab the ground. Under suitable conditions, they will germinate themselves. So if you want to harvest the seeds, do not cut off dead flowers, because the pods are made of blooming flowers.

Harvesting and germination of seeds

If you are going to multiply the oleander from his seeds, you need to harvest pods after they dry and brown, but you have to do it before the pods start breaking. When germinating, use a soil that allows good drainage.

We recommend a cactus mixture with a little peat or just peat. Put a thin layer of soil on the seeds, irrigate with water and give them enough natural light. Germination usually takes two weeks to a month, but in some cases it may take three months. When the seedlings create two sets of right leaves, you can transplant into pots.

Attention, the seeds do not eat in any way

The pods of the oleander and the seeds in them are toxic to humans and animals. Therefore, keep your children and your four -legged pets. At the same time, beware of any plant manipulation, it can quickly cause skin irritation or straight dermatitis.

Always take gloves when you care for the plant and never miss them, especially at the time of harvest. In addition to gloves, it is recommended to wear long sleeves. Another negative aspect has been confirmed – beautiful, barravné flowers literally attracting to smell, but at the same time they can cause irritation of the airways. Be careful.
