Marcelo Bretas would have violated resolutions when using social networks to sell leadership and personal development courses
A (Lawyers of Rio de Janeiro) sent a disciplinary complaint On Monday (3.FEV.2025) the Corregedoria do (National Council of Justice) requesting the conduct of the former Lava Jato Jato Jato Bretas, who would act as coach on social networks. Here is (PDF – 4.3 MB).
Bretas, known as “Moro do Rio”-reference to former Judge Sergio Moro-, Since February 2023, after the OAB triggered the agency indicating that the judge has committed deviations in the conduct of the processes of Operation Lava Jato.
According to the entity, on Monday, “Even removed from his duties, but still in the judiciary, Bretas remains subject to the duties inherent to the position, and should observe the principles of the judiciary with responsibility ”.
The State Bar Association argues that Bretas has performed “coaching” e using “Your image and notoriety” To market courses and mentoring, which would be conduct prohibited by legislation that applies to the judiciary.
Two CNJ Resolutions (No. 34/2007 and No. 226/2016) prohibit magistrates to perform coaching activities, overexposure or association with brands, even if they are removed from office.
“Bretas maintains a strong presence on social networks, where he accumulates more than 500,000 followers, and promotes paid courses for personal development and leadership for values that reach R$ 2.497. In addition, it provides exclusive content through annual signature and manages a team aimed at its operations in this market ”says the OAB.
The complaint was referred to the National Corregedor of Justice, Minister Mauro Campbell.
The OAB-RJ document recalls that the CNJ has already determined the suspension of the profile of a magistrate linked to the TRF-2 (Federal Court of the 2nd Region) by “Signs of self -promotion and overexposure of the judge and coaching activity”.
The organ requires:
- the establishment of a disciplinary administrative proceeding to investigate possible violations of Bretas;
- the precautionary suspension of Bretas profiles on social networks; and
- the precautionary removal of Bretas from its functions.
The complaint was referred to the National Corregedor of Justice, Minister Mauro Campbell. She is signed by OAB-RJ Attorney General, Marcos Luiz Oliveira de Sousa, and Deputy Attorney General, Thiago Gomes Morani.
