Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Warsaw will not receive migrants and refuses to resettle and the EU Migration Pact.
“There will be no resettlement. We said it very clearly, ”said Siemoniak on Tuesday, according to PAP. This is informed by TASR.
The European Commission claims that resettlement is necessary to alleviate pressure on countries that manage the EU’s external borders.
According to Siemoniak, Poland took a clear position against the EU Pact on migration and asylum. It is a set of mandatory regulations for management of migration within the EU and creates a common asylum system.
According to him, Prime Minister Donald Tusk also expressed the same negative opinion and mentioned that the Migration Pact was thoroughly discussed by the previous government led by law and justice.
The start of the efficiency of the pact remains several months, but Siemoniak said the interviews are still ongoing.
“I would like to draw attention to the December statement, where it agrees with us that the Polish-Belarusian border is about abuse of migration as a weapon, when the Lukashenko regime uses migrants to destabilize the situation in Poland. The EU has noticed that we are in a special situation, ”said Siemoniak.
Poland has long pointed out that it is facing a migration crisis from the east and in January began to receive EU funds to strengthen the protection of its border with Belarus. In December last year, the European Commission announced that EUR 170 million will allocate EUR 170 million to strengthen the external borders of the Union with Belarus and Russia. The aim is to prevent the use of migration pressure as a hybrid warfare tool. Poland will use a contribution of EUR 52 million to build observation towers, purchase drones and special equipment for mobile border units.
