Spaniard (36) found himself in a serious situation where his penis remained in a state of erection after an incredible thirty hours. This extremely long priapism usually ends with permanent impotence. After four hours when the erection could not get rid of himself, he decided to seek help at the Albaide Clinic near Valencia. Here he was diagnosed with priapism – a condition in which blood cannot drain from the penis. After the diagnosis he was taken to the hospital. However, according to his claim, there was a delay in the provision of the necessary treatment and due to this has permanent health consequences.

The man apparently did not receive proper treatment in the hospital and was sent home. Twenty hours later, when the problems persisted, he returned to the hospital, this time accompanied by his desperate wife. However, he was notified that he had to wait for the urologist. After further complaints he was redirected to another hospital, where he was finally hospitalized. In addition to pain and permanent erection, he also has a fever. Doctors had to suck the blood from his penis to relieve him.

The penis was damaged so much that it would be impotent until death. The only solution was a penile prosthesis implanted. However, the prosthesis was not properly fixed and subsequently it was dislocated. This required another surgery. Because of these problems, the man accused medical staff of negligence.

After several years of court, the government had to pay the man compensation of EUR 50,000. According to the experts who judged the case, the patient was not treated in time and correctly, leading to permanent pain and erection problems. In addition, his wife was granted compensation of EUR 5,000 for the suffering she had gone through throughout the process.

“Priapism lasting longer than four or five hours can seriously damage the penis tissue. After twenty hours, the risk of damage is much higher. If the erection persists, the only solution is to disrupt blood flow to the penis. If the stinging bodies are permanently damaged, the patient will no longer be able to achieve an erection and will need a prosthesis”Said urologist Jorge Sanchez.
