A letter signed by 188 entities, politicians and representatives of traditional communities criticizes (Public Defender’s Office) for not renewing the mandate of the regional defender of Bahia, Gabriel Cesar Santos, and accuses the body of promoting a continuous dismantling of the area.

In the letter, the entities state that the non -renewal of Santos’ mandate “without any official justification” generated strong indignation between popular groups and organizations and claim that “current management has shown a worrying misalignment with the defense of human rights.”

The Defender adds that the mandate of defender Gabriel César Santos was completed within the regulatory period of two years.

The Defender says it allocates about R $ 7 million annually for the maintenance of the National Human Rights Defender’s Office and guaranteed a vehicle leasing contract, including executive vans and 4×4 pickup trucks, in the amount of R $ 223,000, specifically for the region North East.
