“If this is the only arrangement in which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine, we will definitely go through this arrangement,” Zelensky said when asked by Morgan about how he would feel sitting in front of the Russian leader. “What is the importance of my attitude toward him?”

Putin, who secured a fifth presidential term last March in Kremlin’s hard -controlled elections, said he could not negotiate an agreement with Zelensky, whom he called the illegitimate president.

Zelensky’s term formally ended last May, although new presidential elections cannot be held under martial law, which Ukraine declared at the beginning of the large -scale invasion of Russia.

However, Moscow’s position also seems to have changed. Despite Zelensky’s “big problems” in terms of legitimacy, “the Russian side remains open to negotiations,” Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Wednesday.
