Spokesman for Argentine President Javier Milei cites differences in health management and criticism of confinement during the pandemic
Argentina announced on Wednesday (5.FEV.2025) that will leave the WHO (World Health Organization), Presidential spokesman Manuel Ardoni during conversation with journalists.
The decision will be official after Argentine President Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza, right) signs the decree, according to information from the Argentine newspaper .
At the time, Ardoni stated that the measure reflects the “Deep differences in health management”. It added that Argentina will not allow an international agency to intervene in the health of the country.
“We have not received WHO financing for management, so the measure does not represent a loss of funds or affects the quality of services. It gives more flexibility to take action and greater availability of resources. Reaffirms our way to sovereignty in the health issue ”said Ardoni.
The spokesman also stated that Milei instructed Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to remove the participation of Argentina from WHO based on “Divergences on health management and confinement during COVID-19 pandemic”.
Milei’s attitude is days after US President Donald Trump (Republican), a decree determining the withdrawal of the country from the UN (United Nations) organ. The US was the main WHO funders.
Trump’s measure uses as a justification for “Mal management” of the agency’s pandemic. The decree also cites a “Failure to adopt urgently necessary reforms” and one “Inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence of the Member States”.
