Preferred by the Planalto Palace to assume the presidency of, former Mayor Edinho Silva faces resistance within the president’s own wing (PT), the CNB (building a new Brazil).
The perspective of change in the party summit has fostered the opposition of the occupants of the current direction to the name of Edinho. The CNB threatens to rebel against its greatest leader, looking for options to its nominee.
Among Lula’s allies, the bet was that this resistance would cool after the president informed the petistas the intention to appoint the current president of the acronym, the federal deputy for Paraná, to the command of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
Gleisi had been defending a name from the Northeast for his succession in the PT. With it out of office, the articulation of alternatives to Edinho could be reduced in government calculations. This is not what happened.
Supporters of the former mayor of Araraquara had a sample of this on Monday night (3), when an invitation to a dinner with Edinho received criticism in the Whatsapp group of deputies who make up the PT’s majority current. The meeting was canceled.
Coordinator of the CNB bench, the first secretary of the House, Carlos Veras (PE), published, in the group, an invitation to dinner with Edinho scheduled for this Wednesday (5) in the apartment of Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (MG).
Government leader in the House, José Guimarães (CE) was one of those who reacted to the invitation without prior debate about the dispute. He called the precipitate initiative, a way to the internal division.
Guimarães also recalled that Gleisi’s expected appointment to the General Secretariat of the Presidency has not even been formalized and it is not known who will replace it to conduct the election. “We can’t run over the rites. Often those who walk fast eat raw,” he said.
PT’s secretary of communication, Jilmar Tatto (SP), stressed the fact that the invitation to dinner mention “some deputies” among the guests.
Tatto said a meeting was mistaken with just a few parliamentarians. He also stated that it would be a way for a party crack.
“Veras, you, as a coordinator of the CNB bench, cannot lend itself to it. CNB has always been concerned with progressive consensus. This does not help. It is a disrespect for President Gleisi and all the coordination,” he protested.

According to him, the meeting was postponed due to the coincidence of date with a dinner that will gather leaders of the democratic field, also scheduled for this Wednesday.

Another ally of Edinho stated that the postponement was to expand the participation of deputies who could support him.
The future president of the PT will conduct the sewing of alliances to the 2026 presidential elections. Edinho’s profile has been defended by his conciliatory stance, as he has defended the expansion of dialogue to the center and the end of polarization.
At the head of the PT, Edinho could seek party alignment to the economic policy led by the Minister of Finance ,. He is appointed as one of Haddad’s supporters within the party.
Under the presidency of Gleisi, the PT approved critical documents to economic policy ,. Lula’s allies evaluate that it is a bet to stimulate the party’s social base and may even soften the tensions with Haddad.
