Goiás Fernanda Fernandes will assume the presidency of the National Association of Public Defenders (Anadep) next Tuesday (11). The new members of the Director, Advisory and Fiscal Council for the Biennium 2025-2027 will also be sworn in.
The entity represents more than 7,000 public defenders from all states and the Federal District.
The new president, who commanded two terms to the Goiana Association of Defenders, is currently an administrative vice president of Anadep and represents the Association in the National Committee for the Prevention and Combating Torture (CNPCT).
He says he aims to “guarantee the structure, necessary performances and the recognition” for the work of defenders.
Defenders represent people who earn up to three minimum wages, a universe of 88% of potential users in the Brazilian population.
Currently, the State Public Defender’s Office is present in about 60% of Brazilian counties.
ANADEP has among its priorities to give effectiveness to a 2014 constitutional amendment that aims to universalize access to justice and ensure the presence of public defenders across the country.
