"The Public Prosecution Service does not repress politicians," says Fernando Medina's lawyer

Interview SIC News

PAulo Sá and Cunha, lawyer of Fernando Medina, spoke about the Tutti-Frutti case. In an interview with SIC Notícias, he criticized the delay of the prosecutor and said that Fernando Medina was never competent to attribute the allowance in question.

Fernando Medina was left out of the charge in the Tutti-Frutti process, but she did not escape criticism from the Public Prosecution Service (MP). His lawyer, Paulo Sá and Cunha, says that the decision not to accuse was expected and legally correct, but regrets the time that took theEr taken. The lawsuit, which began in 2016, could have been closed earlier, the defense points out in an interview with SIC Notícias.

About the censorship that the MP directs tothe lawyer rejects the idea that the prosecutor has legitimacy to “reprimand” to politicians. The lawyer points out that the decision to assign the subsidy to the Rugby Association was not from Medina, but from the Lisbon City Council, by unanimous deliberation of the councilors. He considers, therefore, that it is unfair to attribute direct responsibilities to him.

Paulo Sá and Cunha also points to criticism of the prosecutor for the delay in investigation. Nine years later, only now there is an order of prosecution and filing. For the lawyer, these types of dragged cases have a negative impact, not only for the targets, but for the functioning of justice and public perception of the judicial system.

Regarding possible legal actions, the lawyer admits that processing the state or communication companies for reputational damages is a theoretical hypothesis, but does not confirm that Fernando Medina is pondering this road. For now, the priority is to end this chapter and move on.
