Families of transgender children asked on Tuesday (4) that a Federal Court block the decree of US President Donald Trump to end all federal funding or health care that help gender transitions to people with less 19 years old.
In a lawsuit filed against the Trump government at the Maryland Federal Court, families, which are represented by Legal Lambda and the American Civil Liberties Union, claim that the decree discriminates against transgender people and goes beyond Trump’s authority as president. The LGBT defense PFLAG group is also one of the authors of the action.
The White House did not respond to a commentary request at first.
Because of the decree, according to the process, hospitals across the country have already begun to cancel consultations for gender transitional treatments, usually called gender affirmation care, which may include puberty blocking medications, hormones and sometimes surgery .
The plaintiffs are expected to seek a temporary restriction order as quickly as possible to allow hospitals to resume treatment, a Lambda Legal lawyer said on Tuesday.
The plaintiffs say their consultations have been canceled in recent days by Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, Nyu Langone in New York, Boston Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Richmond in Virginia. Hospitals are not defendants in the process.

One of the authors, Kristen Chapman, moved from Tennessee to Virginia so that her transgender daughter, Willow, could receive treatment after Tennessee prohibited gender affirmation in 2023, according to the process.
After paying for her own pocket treatment at a clinic for months, Chapman got an appointment on January 29 at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, which would accept family medical insurance.
Chapman said at a news conference on Tuesday that she moved because she expected Virginia to be a safe place for her daughter. But a few hours before the consultation, the hospital called to cancel, he said.

Children’s National confirmed that it had suspended gender affirmation treatments because of the decree. Nyu Langone declined to comment. The other hospitals did not respond to requests for comments at first.
