Tavira Cineclub has already released the February program, with the screening of two award -winning film films at Tavira Plaza.
On February 8 (Saturday), at 11:00, “my favorite cake” will be shown by Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha.
The film tells the story of Mahin (Lili Farhadpour), a 70 -year -old woman who, after her husband’s death and her daughter’s departure abroad, leads a lonely life in Teuão. Tired of loneliness, he decides to open himself to change and eventually meets Faramarz (Sobaeel Mehrabi), an introvert and lonely taxi driver who makes her feel alive again. The work was distinguished with the Fipresci Award at the 2024 Berlin Festival and Silver Hugo at the Chicago 2024 Festival.
On February 22 (Saturday), also at 11:00, will be shown “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”, held by Mohammad Rasoulof.
The story revolves around Iman, a civil servant and bailiff who is promoted to the Tehran Revolutionary Court, where he receives a weapon and is pressured to sign death sentences without investigation or judgment. The situation becomes even more tense when the weapon mysteriously disappears, leading Iman to suspect the woman and the two teenage daughters. This production was awarded the Jury Special Award at the 2024 Cannes Festival and was part of the shortlist for better international film in the 2025 Oscars.
The sessions provide a unique opportunity to watch award -winning cinema, reflecting on social themes and contemporary political themes.
