The first US military aircraft expected to depart within the next few hours (possibly Wednesday, Greek time), US officials said as the president’s government is promoting the transfer plan of tens of thousands of immigrants to the US military prison.
Trump has stated that he wants the Pentagon and the Ministry of Homeland Security to extend a detention of immigrants to the US military base to accommodate more than 30,000 immigrants.
“Today, the first flight from the US to Guantanamo Gulf with irregular immigrants is ongoing,” White House spokesman Caroline Levit told Fox Business.
An official, speaking on the condition that he not be named, said today’s flight would carry about twelve immigrants.
Air transfer of immigrants to Guantanamo is added to military flights that have already expelled immigrants to Guatemala, Peru, Honduras and India.
The Pentagon has stated that it plans to deport more than 5,000 immigrants held by US authorities in El Paso, Texas and San Diego, California.
On January 29th, Interior Security Minister Christie Noem announced Donald Trump’s government plans to use Guantanamo’s military prison, which is exclusively detained by people accused of terrorism as an immigrant detention place
In the pre -election, Donald Trump denounced the “invasion” of immigrants who “contaminate the blood” of the US and causing a wave of crime, but which is not evidenced by official statistics.
Unacceptable Detention Conditions
Guantanamo’s prison was founded in 2002 within the US military base in Cuba, as part of the “war against terrorism” declared by then President George W. Bush after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Hundreds of people were kept there, including some al -Qaeda members, but the conditions of detention and complained torture caused a strong political confrontation.
Democratic former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden expressed their intention to close it, but failed.
