In the last quarter of last year, the largest Latin American bank fired its marketing director for irregular corporate card use and, in a matter of weeks, filed. When questioned by journalists if the cases show failures in the compliance of Itaú (), the CEO of the financial institution said that the gestures signal just the opposite.
“I think this speaks well about governance,” said Milton Maluhy Filho, during the presentation of Itaú results.

In the case of Alexsandro Broedel, the former SCF who being sued by the bank for conflict of interest. He is a partner of Eliseu Martins, one of the largest accounting references in the country, and providing services to the bank with dozens of technical and consulting opinions.
“When he [Broedel] came to the bank, already had a relationship of many decades [com Eliseu]which was not declared by one or another, ”explained the CEO. “Once the ‘event’ is discovered, the bank took all the necessary and appropriate measures.”
The executive said that “it is always more comfortable not to give light to events like this,” and added that “ethics is non -negotiable.”

“We need to make this be worth it to all the bank’s executives, whether for the analyst who just entered, or the CEO. Everyone is subject to the same ethical rules, ”he said.
Maluhy explains that, as a rule, the discharge of administrators’ accounts are published in the press through minutes, which is why the Broedel case was revealed.
“The bank acts and continues to work to recompose any damage that shareholders have had because of this relationship,” said the CEO. “Our ethics ruler is valid for everyone.”
