Collegiate presented by Eudócia Caldas (PL-AL) will have 180 days to “leverage” the development of treatments against the disease
Senator Eudócia Caldas (PL-AL) presented on Tuesday (4.FEV.2025) the request for the installation of a temporary committee for analysis of projects aimed at combating and “Leverage” the development of cancer treatments. Now, it is up to the president of the House, (União Brasil-AP) to create, or not, the board.
The senator states that the creation of the Commission is important for the assessment of proposals that aim to circumvent the current challenges of (Unified Health System). She says that the high rate of judicialization and financial costs to treat the disease are problems that need to be solved by congressmen. This is the application (PDF – 248 kb).
“The advancement of cancer and immunotherapy vaccines has shown a significant impact on the prevention and treatment of malignant neoplasms, reducing mortality and improving patients’ quality of life. However, the dependence on importing high cost drugs and the high rate of judicialization represent financial and operational challenges for the SUS ”says Eudocia.
Cancer vaccines already exist. Currently, SUS already offers preventive vaccine against the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) virus, responsible for creating cervical tumors. Girls 9 to 14 years old, boys from 11 to 14 and immunosuppressed women from 9 to 45 years old, are able to receive the dose.
Vaccines against other cancers are being developed around the world, but only against HPV has scientifically proven effectiveness.
In the United States, for example, there are therapeutic vaccines against prostate cancer and melanoma available for use by FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the regulatory agency of medicines in the country. However, they still have no forecast for arrival in Brazil.
Cancer Fighting Regulatory Framework
In addition to the request for the creation of the temporary commission, Senator Eudocia proposed Bill 126/2025, the regulatory framework of the vaccine and high -cost drugs against cancer in Brazil.
The text establishes standards for development, research, national production, distribution and access of vaccines against the disease by SUS. If the commission is installed by alcohumbre, the proposal would be analyzed by it. This is the PL (PDF – 252 kb).
