During the extensive control of the French authorities, 49 drivers of school buses were caught under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This was announced on Wednesday by the Ministry of Transport, informs TASR according to DPA.
According to the ministry, 44 drivers had a positive drug test, five were under the influence of alcohol. They tested approximately 9,000 school buses. The inspection was caused by a fatal accident from last week caused by a school bus driver. A 15-year-old girl died and about 40 people suffered injuries. The chauffeur had a positive drug test at the time of the accident.
According to the French authorities, the responsibility of drivers of school buses is huge. They called to increase alertness as drug use is rising throughout the country. Bus Companies should therefore strengthen prevention and more often carry out tests for alcohol and drugs in their employees.
