The 2025 tour of the show “wanted to know who I am – a theatrical concert”, production of the Dona Maria II National Theater, starts in Faro, on February 14, waiting for its creators who have the same success as 2024.
“The expectation is that it can run so well or even better than during the year 2024,” said Pedro Penim, who conceived the show, to the agency Lusa, adding that last year, the group had “a wonderful experiences” for all the sites wherever it went.
The one who is also an actor, director and artistic director of Dona Maria II explained that it was the success of the 2024 tour that led him to continue in 2025, but now by other cities in the country.
The theatrical concert begins in Faro (Theater of Figures), on February 14, and then present presentations in Penafiel (Point C), on February 22; Guimarães (Vila Flor Cultural Center), on March 15; Viseu (Viriato Theater), on March 22; Covilhã Municipal Theater, on March 29; Águeda Arts Center, on April 5; and Vila Real Municipal Theater, on April 12th.
“It is a show for all audiences, for large audiences […] And the people who lived on April 25, of course, will have a different reading from those not yet born, ”said Pedro Penim.
In each theater, sessions for general public will always be preceded by a session for the school public, which happens the day before the public presentation, is intended for students of the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education.
According to the organizers, the Portuguese gestural language is integrated in the show and are also available several sessions with audio description and a Braille room leaf, for visually impaired people.
“It’s a very emotional spectacle. People are actually thrilled a lot. In addition to being a fun and very informative show, there is a close relationship with the revolutionary songbook, ”said Penim.
A statement from the D. Maria II National Theater states that the show is “halfway between concert and the play” and “revisits the songs of the revolution, the slogans, the songs that are weapons, but also the stories personal of the generations that made April 25 ”.
On the other hand, “I wanted to know who I am – a theatrical concert” brings young actors/singers to the stage and “puts in their voices and their bodies today, and of the future, the memory of the words of freedom”.
The show was conceived by Pedro Penim and debuted in April 2024, being the musical direction of Filipe Sambado and vocal direction of João Neves.
“I wanted to know who I am – a theatrical concert” is interpreted and sung live by Ana Pereira, Barbara Branco, Elisha Ferreira, Francisco Gil Mata, Inês Marques, Jessica Ferreira, Joana Brito Silva, Manuel Coelho, Manuel Incarnation, Rafael Ferreira, Rute Rocha Ferreira and Vasco Seriomenho.
After traveling by six locations in 2024, the show will be returned to the scene in 2025 to be presented in seven new municipalities between February and April, through the Eunice Ageas network.
To end this national tour, the show returns to Lisbon, for three performances, at the Coliseu dos Recreios, on April 25 and 26, on the occasion of the 51 years of the Cloves Revolution.
“We have had wonderful experiences for all the places we have gone through and I’m sure it will be repeated in Faro, and then in other cities, and finally in the apotheotic return to the Colosseum and Lisbon,” concludes Pedro Penim.
The D. Maria II National Theater has been closed for works since 2023, under the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR) for Portugal, and is expected to reopen at the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The tour of “wanted to know who I am – a theatrical concert” takes place in the context of the Eunice Ageas network, launched in 2016, sponsored by actress Eunice Muñoz, which promotes the national circulation of shows produced and co -produced by the purpose of reinforcing the offer quality theatrical in increasingly comprehensive geographies.
