In Gdansk, Poland, the two -day meeting of the European Commission College (EC), which is part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, is culminating on Friday.
The meeting is attended by the chairman of the EC Ursula von Der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, former president and co -founder of the Solidarity Solidarity movement Lech Wales, Polish ministers and Mayor of Gdanska Aleksandra Dulkiewicz. This is informed by TASR.
On Friday, the Polish Prime Minister welcomed von Der Leyen in the European Center of Solidarity, where the thematic discussions of the Commissioners are taking place. The conclusions of the negotiations will be presented during a working lunch, after which a bilateral meeting of Tuska will take place with the chairman of the EC and a joint press conference.
The meeting, according to the Onet portal, is accompanied by protests of farmers and members of the Trade Union Solidarity, who express disagreement with the European Green Agreement (European Green Deal). According to demonstrators, EU policies lead to the rise in energy prices, the liquidation of jobs and a reduction in the competitiveness of the Polish economy.
Solidarity leader Piotr Duda called on Tuska to announce a referendum on the Green Agreement. “If you really changed your attitude (against Green Deal – TASR), let the citizens decide,” Duda pointed to the Prime Minister before the gathered crowd.
The event began on Thursday with a ceremonial dinner with members of the Polish government. The choice of place was not accidental, stressed the State Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecká. “Gdansk is a cradle of solidarity,” she told PAP with reference to the historical movement that contributed to the fall of Communism in Poland.
