United States federal servers associations filed a lawsuit on Thursday night, 6, asking a Federal Court to stop USAID’s “effective dismantling”, the main US humanitarian aid agency by the Donald Trump government.

The lawsuit filed by the American Association of Foreign Services and the American Government Federation of Government occurs as Trump and his ally Elon Musk are aimed at eradicating the agency, freezing its funds and placing almost all of its workers on leave.

The process says Trump has no authority to close a consecrated agency in Congress law. He asks the Federal Court in Washington to force the reopening of USAID buildings, return his employees to work and restore funding.

Also on Thursday, the Trump government presented a plan to dramatically cut people around the world for US help projects as part of USAID disassembly, leaving less than 300 workers among thousands.

Information about the Trump government plan, presented to the agency’s senior employees on Thursday, was passed on by two current USAID employees and a former employee to the Associated Press agency. They spoke on condition of anonymity.

The cuts would leave 300 employees at work, from the current 8,000 direct and outsourced hired. It was not immediately clear whether the reduction would be permanent or temporary, potentially allowing more workers to return after which the Trump government says it is a review of which aid and development programs they want to resume.
