The EMARP Environmental Education and Protection Program (PEPA) – Portimão Municipal Water and Waste Company tore off in March 2024 and, in its first year, had a significant impact on the community. With 295 actions taken, the program directly reached 7,222 people, through initiatives in schools and events, reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmental education and awareness.
In the school context, PEPA has boosted 132 actions in public and private schools in Portimão, involving 3,059 students from 3 to 15 years. In addition to schools, EMARP was present in 25 events, in partnership with institutions, associations and companies, raising about 4,163 citizens.
EMARP’s Environmental Education team promotes dynamic and interactive activities that encourage reflection and dialogue on fundamental topics such as sustainability, water and sanitation, waste management and circular economy.
All initiatives are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the importance of moving habits to a more sustainable planet.
More than numbers, PEPA represents an investment in the social and environmental development of the community.
Believes that “environmental education, in all age groups and social contexts, is an essential pillar for the construction of a more sustainable and responsible society. Each citizen plays a key role in preserving natural resources, and awareness is the first step in transforming behaviors and ensuring a sustainable future for all. ”
