Municipality of Portimão improves Energy Efficiency of the Cardosas Tunnel

The Cardosian tunnel, one of the main roads of access to Portimão, will have traffic conditioning, with the circulation to be done only in an alternating range, between February 10 and 19.

The measure will allow the replacement and modernization of the inner lighting of the Cardian tunnel, in an essential intervention to reinforce safety and energy efficiency, contributing to a more functional and sustainable city.

Given the impact of the intervention and the need to ensure proper luminosity, the works will take place during the daytime, and may extend beyond the usual working hours. To minimize the effects on circulation, the closing of the bands will be alternated, never occurring simultaneously.

The first phase of the work implies the closure of the track in Portimão-Hospital, already from 9:00 on Monday, February 10. Upon completion of this stage, the track will be closed towards Hospital – Portimão.

During the weekend from February 14 to 17, between 19:00 Friday and 08:00 on Monday, the tunnel will be fully open to circulation. The total reopening is scheduled for February 20, 2025.

With this investment, about 140 thousand euros, Portimão municipality reinforces the commitment to “the improvement of road infrastructure and road safety, ensuring a more functional and sustainable city”.

During the intervention period, it recommends “special attention to temporary signaling on site and the use of alternative routes, in order to minimize impacts on circulation”.
