The Algarve reached the largest number of guests ever in 2024, with tourist accommodation establishments hosting 5.2 million visitors, revealed the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA).
RTA also points out that, in addition to the largest number of guests ever in the region, Gago Coutinho International Airport in Faro reached the “largest record in its history”, surpassing the 9.8 million passengers in 2024.

The Algarvian tourism region also points out that, in terms of overnight, preliminary numbers of national tourist activity in 2024, released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), show “an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous year, totaling 20.7 million overnight ”. “Although still slightly below the 20.9 million pre-pound record, the region remains the main national tourist destination, recording the largest number of overnights in the country,” he says.

The tourist markets that most contributed to the increase of passengers in Faro were the British, with 4.4 million passengers (plus 0.3%), German, with 1.13 million (plus 9.7%), and the Irish, with 967,000 passengers (plus 7.9%), needs.
The Algarve also had a record of 1.46 million in the number of turns thrown in the golf fields in 2024, obtaining “5%growth” compared to the previous year, highlights the RTA, pointing out October (179,000 laps), April (162,000) and March (153,000) as the months with the highest demand for the practice of the sport in the region.
Algarve’s tourism president, André Gomes, quoted in the RTA statement, considers that the “Algarve is one of Europe’s most complete tourist destinations” and that the records reached “reflect tourists’ confidence in destination” and “positive impact ”That the activity has in the regional and national economy.
