The mayor of Olhão, António Miguel Pina, is the candidate of the PS to the Chamber of Faro in the next local elections, today said the PS Faro Political Commission.
In, the council reported that the name of António Miguel Pina, which cannot be re-appointed the Olhão due to the Mandate Limitation Law, was approved on Friday night with about 90% of the votes.
“The expressive result that has obtained not only the confidence of the militants in their character and competence, but also the recognition of their vast municipal experience and their leadership ability,” he said.
According to the council, the socialist has the “determination and necessary vision” to return the Faro “the centrality it deserves”, after 16 years marked by a PSD executive “exhausted and aimless”.
The Chamber of Faro is led by the social democrat Rogério Bacalhau that reached, in the municipal elections of 2021, the absolute majority by the coalition united by Faro (PSD/CDS-PP/IL/PPM) and which, also due to the limitation of Mandates, it is unable to re -apply.
The PS council considered that António Miguel Pina is the only candidate capable of leading a new cycle for the county.
“We believe that your dedication, your transformative vision, your commitment to social causes and your proven municipal experience will be fundamental to build a decent future for Faro and all residents of Faro,” he said.
António Miguel Pina, besides leading the Chamber of Olhão since 2013, is the current president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (Amal).
The next local elections are expected to take place between September and October.
