In the Solveig project in France, the modules are placed on unused tracks using a lifting arm and are intended to generate electricity for trains and households.
More than 5600 kilometers run through Austria. However, not all of them are often used, especially when it comes to regional routes. Some railway tracks have also been shut down in the past because the routes no longer economically rejected. According to a study by the T3 Transportation Think Tank and the Wuppertal Institute on behalf of Greenpeace, train connections with a length of 665 kilometers have been discontinued since 1995.
