He said today that he did not intend to leave his other organs, (UNHRC), which he boycotts by accusing him of bias and “blatant anti -Semitism”.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gidone Saar announced on Wednesday that his country would stop participating in the UN main body responsible for human rights, accusing it on the X platform of “focusing on attacking a democratic country and propaganda of anti -Semitism, anti -Semitism. instead of promoting human rights. “

This decision was taken the day after the signature by Donald Trump, which provides that Washington, which was also preparing, will leave a number of other UN bodies, including the Human Rights Council.

Daniel Mron, Israel’s ambassador to the UN headquarters in Geneva, said the two announcements were “not coordinated” and that his country does not intend to stop participating in other UN bodies at present.

“We’re just talking about the Human Rights Council,” he told Geneva reporters. “We work with the UN where there is no bias.”

Israel and its allies have long accused this council of bias, stressing that Israel is subject to special treatment, which makes its case discussed at every regular meeting.

This country has been the subject of more resolutions than “Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela,” Saar said, citing states often accused of not respecting human rights.

Meron emphasized the need for a “deep reform” of the Council, accusing him of “betraying Israel” after the attacks of October 7, 2023 and “did not condemn terrorists”.

He also stated that experts authorized by UNHRC “perpetuate anti -Semitic myths and stereotypes” without provoking the Council’s reaction.

Israel is already boycotting UNHRC and refuses to participate in discussions on the situation of rights in the Palestinian territories.

UNHRC spokesman, Pascal Sim, stressed that Israel, like the United States, do not currently belong to the 47 Member States of this body. States with an observer status cannot therefore “leave” officially, he argued.

Meron, for his part, said that Israel “simply will not attend meetings”.
