Brazil was the 2nd country to update nationally determined contributions, after the United Arab Emirates

Only 10 of the 197 countries delivered the 3rd generation of nationally determined contributions (NDC), whose objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The deadline established in the Paris Agreement to deliver the contribution ends next Monday (10.FEV.2025), 9 months before the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, in.

The Paris Agreement, a global treaty signed to limit global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius and reduce climatic impacts 10 years in 2025. To stabilize thermometers according to the goal of the agreement, it is necessary to decrease the gas emissions of the Greenhouse effect at 57%, according to the United Nations Program for the Environment.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said in January that countries should focus efforts on creating greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2035. Guterres highlighted work “In close collaboration with the host of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP30, President Lula do Brasil.”

Brazil is currently responsible for 2.45% of world emissions, according to the emission database report for global atmospheric research of 2024. After the United Arab Emirates, Brazil was the 2nd country to update nationally determined contributions, according to the entity.

Brazil has set a goal of reducing emissions between 59% to 67% by 2035, compared to 2005. The new track should lead the country to emit between 850 million tons to 1.05 billion tons of carbon diolent gas . The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, set a 47% cutting goal for 2035 compared to 2019.

The United States were the 3rd country to deliver to NDC in 2024 before the President (Republican Party) announced the country’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Trump’s decision has not yet passed António Guterres, depositary of the treaty.

“I can confirm that the United States notified the Secretary General, in its quality of depositary, of its withdrawal, on January 27 this year, of the Paris Agreement.”said Stephane Dujaric, spokesman for UN chief Antonio Guterres. “According to article 28, paragraph two, of the Paris Agreement, the departure of the United States will come into force on January 27, 2026,” he explained.

Uruguay also delivered the NDC in 2024, with a goal of limiting CO2 emissions to up to 9.6 million tons, from CH4 to 818,000 tons and N2O to up to 32,000 tons by 2035. Switzerland, United Kingdom, Andorra, Ecuador, New Zealand and Saint Lucia presented their contributions in 2025.
