“We won on the left, but we govern the center and right. This bothers our base and militancy a lot,” says Pereira of the PT movement, which has about 10% of party militants, as well as five federal deputies and control of five state directory.
The main current is building a new Brazil, which controls about 45% of the party.
The leader says he exposed his ideas about the party and the government during a meeting with Lula two weeks ago at the Planalto Palace. One of the points addressed was the lack of marks of the third term of the petista. “The agenda of the current government is Lula 1 and Lula 2. There is no news,” he says.
The leader argues to replace ministers of parties linked to “centrão” with other PT affiliates and leftist parties. “It is necessary to reinforce the presence of progressive ministers,” he says.
Another of its flags is to democratize the internal division of the Electoral Fund, to more contemplate the party’s sectoral centers, which take care of areas such as food security, indigenous affairs, public safety and people with disabilities.
Last year Pereira was one of the main critics within the party when they were concentrated in the national direction and federal deputies.
This, according to him, led to mistaken decisions to spend a lot of money on uncompetitive candidacies, such as mayor of Belo Horizonte, in which PT candidate Rogério Corrêa had only 4.37% of the votes.
Pereira should run for the PT presidency with former Mayor Edinho Silva, a member of the party’s largest current and favorite, and at least one more “radical” wing candidate of the party.
