On Saturday, the Polish Minister of Climate and the Environment Paulina Hennig-Klosková identified the disconnection of the Baltic States from the Moscow of the controlled electricity network as the end of Russia’s energy blackmail in the region. The Minister announced this during the ceremony in Vilnius, informs TASR according to the report of PAP. “We have an extremely important geopolitical weekend for Central and Eastern Europe,” wrote Hennig-Klosková on the social network X.

Lithuania, together with Latvia and Estonia, has still used the electric network controlled by Moscow. After disconnecting from the Russian network, the Baltic countries will operate in “isolated mode” to test the frequency of their networks and power levels. “The era, when Russia used energy to blackmail or strengthen its influence, ended. Poland has a great contribution to this process“the Minister said.

Estonia ended energy consumption from Russia at approximately 08.00 local time. Latvia and Lithuania stopped the supply of energy from Belarus earlier. The Baltic countries will begin to use the energy connection with Poland and Sweden.

The countries planned to disconnect from the Moscow of the controlled electricity network for 12 years. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the whole process was accelerated. The ceremony in the Lithuanian metropolis was also attended by President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Leyen and Polish President Andrzej Duda.
