The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed in an interview with El Diario New York Post That he spoke with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, although he did not want to clarify when or if they have talked more than once since he won the elections in November last year.
In the interview from the Air Force One, he said that he prefers “not to say anything” about when he spoke with Putin or if he has done so since January 20, when he assumed the presidency.
The president has added that he has “a good relationship” with his Russian counterpart and has also expressed his hope that the war ends “quickly.”
Trump has limited himself to ensuring that Putin “cares” the dead and wants “people to die” in the war in Ukraine, that Russian president himself unleashed three years ago with the invasion of part of the Ukrainian territory.
Trump National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said Sunday in an interview in Meet the Presswhich cannot confirm the call between Trump and Putin or give additional information about what was discussed.
The Kremlin has eluded this Sunday to confirm or deny Trump’s statements, about a telephone conversation.
