The country began to increase stocks after Russia has increased the number of attacks on gas infrastructure.
Ukraine will keep the import of natural gas at a high level of 16.3 million cubic meters (m3) on Sunday. TASR informs about this on the basis of a report by Reuters, which appealed to the data of the State Transport System Operator.
Data shows that Ukraine will import 7.1 million m3 of gas from Hungary, 7.3 million from Slovakia and 1.8 million from Poland. Ukraine began to increase gas imports sharply last week after it faced a series of Russian missile attacks on the gas sector in recent months. In January, Russia burned dozens of missiles and unmanned aircraft to the Ukrainian Western Lviv region, where there are gas storage facilities, and to the Kharkov region, the main center of gas production in Ukraine.
The country can store approximately 30 billion cubic meters of gas in its reservoirs. Facilities have been the target of regular missile attacks since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022. The decline in gas extraction and the problems associated with the collection of underground storage tanks can force Kiev to increase the volume of imports even further, Reuters said.
Ukrainian energy minister Herman Halušchenko said last week that the country could need to bring about one billion cubic meters of gas during the current heating season.
