The European Union will respond to the latest announcement of US President Donald Trump’s rates, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Monday (10).
Barrot told TF1 television that France and its European partners should not hesitate to defend their interests in the face of US tariff threats.
Trump said on Sunday (9) that on all steel and aluminum imports to the US, as well as existing metal rates, in another large climb of their commercial policy reform.
Asked if France and the European Union will answer, Barrot said: “Of course… this is what Donald Trump did in 2018, and we respond. We will respond again. ”
The European Commission will decide on the sectors that will be affected by an answer, he added.
“She (the commission) is ready to tighten the trigger when the time comes. Now, this time has come. It is not in anyone’s interest to start one, ”he pointed out.
