Keir Starmer became the first acting British Prime Minister and leader of the G7, who publicly passed HIV testing. He also called on other world politicians to follow his example. AFP reported on Monday, TASR writes.
The British Prime Minister’s office published on Monday the footage of the United Kingdom leader on Friday As part of the nationwide action to support HIV testing in his residence at Downing Street Home Test. The British Health Security Agency (UKHSA) estimates that 4700 people with non -diagnosed HIV live in England. A key part of the strategy to find them is to intensify testing.
Starmer explained in a statement that if people are tested, they will know their status – “And it is better to know”, and subsequently they can access treatment, which will also help “fulfill our common goal to complete new HIV broadcasts by 2030.” The British Prime Minister spoke of this goal in December 2024, announcing that his government would allocate further funds for it. The detailed plan will be published at the end of this year.
The weekly HIV testing campaign has been held in England every year since 2012. People can be ordered for free HIV testing in the blood if there are two types of domestic test kits: one provides results within 15 minutes, the other allows a syphilis test and evaluates in laboratories. HIV is a human immune insufficiency virus that attacks a person’s immune system and thus reduces its defenses against the disease and can develop into AIDS.
