The government of São Paulo announced that the work of the tunner, known as “Tatuzão”, where the trains of DO, had the excavation phase completed on Sunday (9).
According to the State Government, the tunnel Maria Leopoldina arrived at São Joaquim station, the last of the southern stretch of the extension. The works of the line has an estimated cost of R $ 19 billion and reached 60% of conclusion.
The government pointed out that after the completion of the excavation, the first stretch of the modal – between the Brazil and Perdizes stations – should be delivered by the end of the second half of 2026.
Already the rest of the line, which goes from the Perdizes Station to São Joaquim, and connects the northern zone to the center of the capital, will be delivered at the end of the second half of 2027. The line will have connections with 1-blue lines and 4-yellow Metro, 7-Ruby and 8-Diamond of trains.
“With the completion of the excavation of the tunnels, we have now started the installation of rails, systems and the acquisition of trains. This project improves mobility, quality of life and drives the city’s economy, ”said Secretary Rafael Benini of the State Investment Partnership Secretariat.

The tunnel Maria Leopoldina, also known as Tatuzão Sul, weighs 2,000 tons and is 109 meters long, with an excavation diameter of 10.6 meters. The machine has a dining room, nursing cabin, a treadmill for the removal of the excavated material, as well as a command cabin and auxiliary equipment.
Line 6-Orange
The new stretch of the São Paulo subway, will have a length of 15.3km long and will connect the neighborhood of Brasilândia, in the North Zone, to São Joaquim station, in the center of the capital. According to the government, the route, currently made by bus at about 1h30, should be reduced to 23 minutes.
The planned stations are Brasilândia, Vila Cardoso, Itaberaba, João Paulo I, Parish of Ó, Santa Marina, Água Branca, Sesc Pompei, Perdizes, PUC-Cardoso de Almeida, Angelica/Pacaembu, Higienópolis/Mackenzie, 14 Bis, Bela Vista and St. Joaquim.
