At least 31 people died and several others suffered injuries in the capital Guatemala after a bus from the highway bridge crashed there on Monday morning. The rescuers there, writes TASR based on Reuters and AFP reports.
“So far, we have pulled out 31 bodies from the bus and we are trying to save other people who have been stuck,” said firefighters spokesman. The rescuers have managed to rescue ten injured, and several of them were taken to the hospital.
A bus with 75 passengers traveled along a busy route to Guatemala when he fell from the Puente Belice Bridge in the north of the city, standing above the road and the river. According to AFP, the river is contaminated with waste water. In the images published by local firefighters, the collapsed bus was partially immersed in this river and surrounded by the bodies of the victims.
Mayor Guatemala Ricardo Quiñóz on social networks reported on the deployment of rescue services at the scene, as well as the police effort to create replacement routes for drivers and passengers in the region.
