In Singapore they detained a teenager on Monday, who allegedly wanted to attack Muslims similar to the terrorist attack in New Zealand in 2019. This is reported to TASR, according to the AFP report. Eighteen -year -old Nick Lee was reportedly inspired by Brenton Tarrant, who shot 51 believers of Muslims in the New Zealand city of Christchurch in March 2019 in mosques.
“Lee wanted to attack Muslims in Singapore, along with similar -minded far -right individuals with whom he communicated over the Internet,” has been introduced by the Singapore (ISD) internal security department. According to ISD, Lee was supposed to attack Muslims in Singapore with homemade weapons, knives and molot cocktails. He wanted to broadcast the whole attack online.
ISD issued an order to arrest Lee in December. Resistance to Muslims in the young man, according to the authorities, began to form in 2023 under the influence of extreme right -wing propaganda on social networks. Nick Lee believes in the superiority of the Chinese, Korean and Japanese ethnic groups. He is an ethnically Chinese.
“He idealized the tarrant. He edited the video games to pretend to be a tarrant that kills Muslims in a mosque in Chirstchurch,” He claims ISD. The report on terrorist threats in Singapore last year described the radicalization of youth as extremely worrying, with 13 out of 52 cases of “self -radicalization” were people under 20.
