American President Donald Trump said the Palestinians will not have the right to return to the Gaza Strip under their plan to take control and rebuild the territory, according to excerpts from an interview released on Monday (10).
“No, they wouldn’t have, because they will have much better dwellings,” Trump said in an interview with Bret Baier, from the TV channel Fox Newswhen asked if the Palestinians would have the right to return. “In other words, I’m talking about building a permanent place for them, because if they have to return now, it will take years before you can – it’s not habitable.”
Comments will certainly trigger a new wave of anger at Palestinians, Arab leaders and others globally. Trump initially suggested at a press conference after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week.
Advisors sought, insisting that Trump was not compromising American troops to the region or promising American money to Gaza’s reconstruction. Others described this as a way to press countries in the region, including Jordan and Egypt, to receive Palestinians. But several times since then.
“We will build safe communities, a little away from where they are, where all this danger is,” said Trump. “Meanwhile, I would have that. Think about it as a real estate development for the future. ” He did not clarify whether he wanted to say he would have Gaza in his role as president of the US or as a real estate developer.
Trump’s Gaza plans are expected to be among the topics when King Abdullah II of Jordan has a meeting scheduled with him in Washington on Tuesday (11).
