“BroadMinded” research also points out that 54% of Brazilians have already been exposed to misinformation on the social networks of the goal
A research done by Broadmindedwhich analyzes communication trends in Latin America, points out that 41% of Brazilians do not approve the determination Da Meta, company owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, to end the independent checking program.
The survey points out that 9 out of 10 users evaluate that the company should have greater responsibility for removing improper content, as well as collaboration with the authorities. The decision of the businessman Mark Zuckeberg, for now, is valid only in the United States.
Among the countries that were part of the study, Brazil’s rejection rate is the highest. Negative assessment in other countries is:
- Argentina: 28%;
- Mexico: 31%;
- Colombia: 35%;
- Chile: 30%;
- Peru: 26%.
The goal also announced on January 7 the flexibility of the rules that limit hate speech on digital platforms as well as reducing the range of automatic filters that remove content.
For 87% of respondents, the goal should have a legal obligation to remove accounts and content, as well as to collaborate with the authorities in cases that represent risks in the real world. The survey listened to 3,200 people during January.
The survey also points out that 54% of Brazilians have already been exposed to misinformation on the goal’s social networks, and 43% have already found hate speech on the platforms; 29% say it has believed in fake news on social networks. By distrusting information seen on the Internet, 53% resort to the press and 57% search on the internet.
Currently, the platforms are responsible for content published by third parties in case of court decision. The debate on the accountability of social networks is being debated in the Supreme Court (STF). “This is a land that has law. Social networks are not land without law. In Brazil, they will only continue to operate if they respect Brazilian law, regardless of Big Tech leaders’ bravado ”said Minister Alexandre de Moraes, after the announcement of the decision of the goal.
