The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said on Monday, 10, that the Brazilian government believes in the dialogue by commenting on the announcement of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, of IMPORT 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum sold to the US. He recalled that in the past, in a similar situation, there was the establishment of export quotas from the Brazilian product to the Americans.

“Look, let’s wait because we believe a lot in dialogue. This has happened before, but there were quotas, quotas were established. The Brazil-United States partnership is balanced, it is a winning win, we export to them, they export to us, they earn the population, ”Alckmin told journalists after visiting the Bionovis plant in Valinhos (SP).

Alckmin did not give details, but the quotas for Brazilian steel export were established in 2018, the result of a Brazilian government negotiation when, in his first term, Trump announced the 25% rate on steel products entering the United States.

This Monday, Alckmin sought to highlight the historical relationship between the US and Brazil, 200 years. “We export $ 40.2 billion to the United States, which are value added, plane, car, finally, and they export to us up to a little more, $ 40.5 billion dollars (…) let’s wait still this question of taxation. The other time it was done, there was quotas. Our disposition is always collaboration, partnership for the benefit of our populations, ”replied the deputy.
