Senator Ciro Nogueira, national president of Progressives (PP), announced that he invited country singer Gusttavo Lima to join the party, hoping that the artist’s candidacy will be possible in the 2026 elections. In an interview with CNN This Sunday (9), Nogueira pointed out that the possibility of Lima running for the presidency depends on the support within the party and, crucially, former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Nogueira stressed that although the invitation to affiliate the PP has been done, this does not guarantee that Gusttavo Lima will be the party candidate for the presidency. For this, the singer would need to conquer the confidence of members of the acronym and, “fatally”, Bolsonaro’s support. The artist is also courted by other subtitles, such as União Brasil and PL, but on the condition that he competes for a place in the Senate.
The senator believes that Gusttavo Lima has the potential to build his political trajectory, either in the next elections or in future disputes. “It’s something he can build and I hope he builds,” Nogueira said, emphasizing the importance of political support for the viability of the candidacy.
Lima received a new proposal to join the PL, as long as he gave up the presidential candidacy and focused on a Senate vacancy. In addition, União Brasil, the party of the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, also expressed interest in having the singer in his ranks, which generated distrust among pockets about a possible political maneuver.
