Congressmen report “abuse” of STF ministers to the OAS

At a meeting in Brasilia, an organization asks for the opinion of deputies and senators about 8 January and the quality of public debate in Brazil

Opposition deputies and senators gathered this Thursday (11.FEV.2025) with Pedro Vaca, representative of (Organization of American States) in Brasilia. At the meeting, congressmen reported what they classify as “Abuse of authority” of ministers of the (Federal Supreme Court).

In turn, the special rapporteur for the freedom of expression of the CIDH (Inter -American Commission on Human Rights), heard the reports and, in the end, asked what the opinion of the congressmen was about 8 January, which they think about misinformation in Brazil and how they qualify the debate in the legislature.

According to the Poder360congressmen understood that cow’s questions are intended to compare the current situation with that of before the alleged abuse.

At the meeting, deputies and senators talked about investigations by the PF (Federal Police) of which they are targets, alleged abuse in searches and seizures made by the corporation. They also talked about the suspension of their profiles on social networks and alleged lack of access to inquiries in the Supreme Court in which they are involved. Still criticized the penalties “Excessive” for those investigated by January 8.

The IACHR is in Brazil until February 14 to “Analyze the situation of freedom of expression in the country”. The organization says it wants to understand perspectives on the situation of the right to freedom of expression, including digital space.
