How old dishes can become a treasure for your plants

Did the sponge serve? We have two chances – either we throw it away or use it again and otherwise. Few realize that it is a material that can serve well for plants.

We often throw the sponges for washing dishes after several uses just because we do not want to go into their thorough cleansing. The enlightenment has already done its work, and so we know how many bacteria can multiply in a relatively short time, and we do not want to risk health. This is reasonable, but it is less logical as we continue to handle such a piece of mushroom.

They wait for their time

We can store the used sponges for several months before they come again. But before we put them for temporary rest, we should still make their basic cleansing.

How to do it? In this case, it will be enough to pour it with boiling water and rub in your hand with a little liquid dishes, ideally ecological composition. When the mushroom has dried perfectly, it can go to others to wait for their time. And why do we do it all?

Gardener knows how to do it

“I have been using dishes for both at home and in the garden for many years,” says an experienced gardener, who liked this helper in the care of plants. “It really pays off for several reasons. On the one hand, we do not have to worry that there will be too much water in the pot and the roots of the rooms begin to rot, and on the other hand, they improve the soil structure for plants that suit lighter soils, ”he explained.

A simple procedure

So how do you want to use this trick? There’s nothing difficult. Cut the necessary volume of sponges into small pieces and use as needed – simply dig them in the garden or burn them into a substrate, in which we then plant the plants, or sow the seeds. Not only will the soil be beautifully aerated, but it will also be light and fluffy, which suits many young plants.

The pieces of sponges will absorb water and thus ensure the regulation of moisture around them. They will drain it when the soil is waterlogged and will release it gradually, so that it will not flow into the deeper layers where the plants will no longer reach their roots.

Instead of drainage …

If we consider using sponges for houseplants, we can go again for advice to many years of grower. “I normally use this material as a drainage. Simply place it on the bottom of the pot and fill it with a substrate. The sponge soaks up excess water and the roots have an ideal environment. Once the soil begins to dry out, the plants have another supply of moisture, ”he said, adding that this is also a convenient procedure for those of us who often forget the rooms or are far from home.

Like the cotton wool for seeds

Sponges can also be used as a suitable seed germination environment. Surely you have ever tried to germinate the plants on a layer of soaked wool. Here is an alternative to the classic procedure.

In the end, however, let’s say that it is still an industrially produced material made of artificial fibers (with an honest exception), so we should not overwhelm the soil more than necessary for the success of our garden management. Remember that nature will cope with human interventions to some extent, but everything must have its limits. Even her patience is not boundless.
